Simplicity

This is what I’m craving.

The world is filled with complicated problems and I am weary of trying to figure things out. I feel the pull towards simplicity and honesty…the robins bathing in the birdbath, the chickadees in the birdhouse, the squirrels playing in the magnolia tree, the seedlings making their way up from the soil, and the sunset at 8:15 pm…this feels like enough.

As always, what is happening in life is mirrored in the studio. I’m drawn to the simplicity of black and white, restraint in detail, and imagery that is easy enough to read, feel, and understand. Painting is all about editing after all - identifying the essential and getting rid of the rest. What can you eliminate to make room for something more meaningful?
