Those Who Can, Teach

“When one teaches, two learn.” ~ Robert Heinlen

They say the best way to understand something is to teach it. Only when you can explain something in simple terms do you really understand it.

In art-making, trying to understand how design and color work can feel like rocket science. But it doesn’t have to be this way. There are universal elements and principles in art that can be clarified and understood. No matter where you are on your creative path, there is always room for learning more.

I am so happy to have the opportunity for the deeper learning provided to me by teaching in the Creative Visionary Program. Every time an artist asks a question, I imagine a variety of ways to present my understanding. I must articulate and actually do what I’m trying to explain, which benefits my work immensely. Each year, we go deep into the principles and elements of art, discovering layer upon layer of nuance. Principles such as dominance, unity, balance, and elements such as value, color, texture, are all deconstructed for better understanding in this intense, twelve-week program.

I’m excited to embark on this learning adventure once again, and I hope you’ll join me!

Enrollment for the Creative Visionary Program is open February 18th to February 23rd at 11:59pm PST. If you learned a few things in the Free Art2Life Workshop, you’ll be delighted with the Creative Visionary Program. This 12-week, highly interactive online program will give you the essential ingredients you need to make art that is stronger and more like you — realistic, abstract or anywhere in between.

If you missed the free workshop videos, you can sign up now and watch them anytime through February 23rd. Once you sign up, you’ll be invited to learn more about the Creative Visionary Program.

If you’d like to hear more about how teaching has informed my work, check out the Art2Life podcast where the Art2Life founder, Nicholas Wilton and I talk about art, life, teaching, and learning.
